Wright On

Florida Times-Union reporter Michael C. Wright covers the ins and outs of the Jacksonville Jaguars. In this blog, he'll share behind-the-scenes anecdotes not published within the pages of the T-U, in addition to offering up incessant ramblings about nothing such as road trips, crummy hotels and not-so-delicious press box food. Perhaps he'll even delve into serious discussions about NFL issues. So ask questions, participate in conversations, or just learn more about the Jags.

Back from vacation; Matt Jones' tattoo

It's been a long, relaxing vacation, but now it's time to get back on the grind.

While on vacation, I was trolling the message boards (yes, we do that from time to time) of one of the fan sites and came across a thread that discusses the tattoo on the left arm (or is it the right?) of Jaguars receiver Matt Jones. People on the message boards seem to think Jones' tattoo reads: "420" (I won't discuss the meaning of "420" on this blog).

Not true.

The tattoo actually says, "Leo." Why "Leo"? After all, his birthday is April 22, which technically makes him a Taurus. Well, last season, we spoke with Jones about this (at the behest of my former editor Pat Yack).

The "Leo" tattoo dates back to Jones' days at Arkansas, where he and some former teammates likened themselves to the cartoon characters from "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" (this is a true story). Well, the main characters of the cartoon - the turtles - are named Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo and Donatello. Jones and his teammates all got tattoos with their various turtle nicknames, and Jones just happens to be the "Leonardo" - hence "Leo" - of the crew.

Weird story? For sure.

As for the return from vacation, it lasts for just a week, then it's back on vacation for another week before returning for NFL draft coverage. In the meantime, if you've got any Jaguars or NFL-related questions or comments, shoot them my way. The origins of Matt Jones' "Leo" tattoo can't be the only intriguing subject of what's turning into an interesting offseason.
