One game out
Sitting here in Nashville at the airport (it's 6:16 a.m., local time by the way), I started to think about what lies ahead for the Jaguars after Sunday's win over the Titans. It's pretty interesting that the Jags are now just one game behind Indianapolis - by virtue of its loss to San Diego - for first in the division.
Perhaps more interesting is that the Jags currently lead the wild-card standings at 6-4 with Buffalo and Cleveland hanging behind with 5-4 records (the Bills have a 5-3 conference record and the Browns are 3-4 in the AFC). So basically, the Jaguars have control of their own destiny.
The question now is whether the Jaguars squander away that control.
In the past, this team has shown a penchant for immaturity. But this season has been a bit different as there seems to be more of a sense of purpose among the players (despite the off-the-field distractions). Couple that with the return of David Garrard (he told me "I'm back" last night) and the Jaguars appear to be in a good situation heading into the club's first home game in nearly a month (maybe Sunday's game against the Chargers can be a sellout- hint, hint - by the way, LT needs 91 yards to reach 10,000 for his career).
What do you guys think? Can the Jags hold on to make a run at the playoffs and perhaps the division title?

Mr. Wright, the question is... What do YOU think! I mean you cover these guys all season, you tell me if they will hold on to that control.

Lots of things happen in an NFL season. Funny, just a week ago we were looking at the possibilities, then arrived at a conclusion of the Jaguars strictly making the play-offs as a wild card.
Now, with a twist of fate (Jaguars winning coupled to other teams within the division losing), the Jaguars are right in the thick of the divisional title chase, a game back of Indianapolis.
In the 1996 season Keenan McCardell asked everybody in Jacksonville a simple question..."why not us"?
Fans, and even the starting QB and superstar tackle were in disbelief. "Boselli and I were making plans for a hunting trip in January, because obviously we weren't going to be in the playoffs," said Brunell.
The knock on Jaguar fans is this falsehood that they all have this "college mentality". This really isn't true. The truth is real Jaguar fans have no tolerance of anybody in teal telling us "why we can't".
Kullinan,
That's hard to say. On one hand, as I've said before, this team has shown more maturity than in the past (although recent off-the-field incidents don't indicate that). But on the other, we haven't yet seen how this more mature group deals with this sort of situation. It's kind of uncharted territory.
So I really don't know what to think. Hopefully the next week or two clears things up for me.
Why was Matt Jones listed as inactive? I thought he was improving.
Is it possible to put the Voting for the Pro Bowl on the Jags Message board page. That way Jags Fans might actually vote for Freddie T. and the rest not just gripe because he wasn't chosen.
Just a thought!
GO JAGUARS!!!
Hold it together guys, sounds like a sell-out (Consistency is the KEY, please no flops after last weeks big game) we need the win and LT can get his 91 against some other DEFENSE!!! :)
