Wright On

Florida Times-Union reporter Michael C. Wright covers the ins and outs of the Jacksonville Jaguars. In this blog, he'll share behind-the-scenes anecdotes not published within the pages of the T-U, in addition to offering up incessant ramblings about nothing such as road trips, crummy hotels and not-so-delicious press box food. Perhaps he'll even delve into serious discussions about NFL issues. So ask questions, participate in conversations, or just learn more about the Jags.

Back to blogging

It's been a while since a new blog has been posted. Please, forgive me.

Because of the bye week, I decided to spend a little more time with the wife and our son. But now that we're back in the swing of things, let's get back into the Jaguars.

Today at practice - in ridiculously pounding rain - Matt Jones worked with quarterbacks coach Mike Shula before the club broke into positional workouts. Jones practiced his drop and delivery off playaction fakes. He likely won't spend any time at quarterback for the Jags. But let's not forget that at Denver, Jones was listed as the club's No. 3 quarterback.

This week, Jones will likely be activated as a receiver. Coach Jack Del Rio said that Jones' situation has been blown out of proportion by the media.

"I made probably a 10-second comment, but it's kind of grown into a story," Del Rio about the comments he made recently about Jones' lackadaisical body language. "His job is to play and understand what the coach is looking for and do it to the best of his ability. My job is to coach and get all I can out of the players - push them, prod them - get them to play their very best. He's working hard. I'm working hard. He's going to be a good football player for us."
